Sunday Afternoons at CBS presents A Capsule of Irving Berlin: His Life, Music and Influence on the American Musical Theater

The River Lights Chorus, Modesto Area’s award winning women’s choral group, highlighted the life, music and influence of Irving Berlin in A Capsule of Irving Berlin at 3 pm January 11, 2015 at Sunday Afternoons at Congregation Beth Shalom in Modesto. The performance was sold to capacity, with standing room only.
The concert featured the men’s award winning groups, Golden Valley Chorus and Velocity Quartet, as well as Young Women in Harmony (young women from Oakdale and Ripon High Schools), and the Temple Singers from Congregation Beth Shalom.
The River Lights segment was narrated by Rabbi Susan Leider, senior rabbi of Congregation Kohl Shofar in Tiburon, and will explore the Jewish roots of Irving Berlin and how they influenced his 1500-song body of work. The accompanist was pianist Dan Warshauer, a native of Tel Aviv currently residing in the Sacramento Area. Mr. Warshauer played the character of Irving Berlin.
The Golden Valley Chorus and Velocity Quartet sang music from the Great American Songbook, The Temple Singerssang Berlin’s beautiful Russian Lullaby, and all the groups will join together for a rich and powerful finale.
