River Lights Chorus is a talented, active, competing member of Sweet Adelines International with a current membership of 20 singers. For the last two years the chorus has been under the direction of Sally Massen. We have been performing in the community, and our membership has stayed steady with Zoom and in-person rehearsals.
We are looking for a director (or interim director) who loves the barbershop four-part a cappella art form or would like to learn and who would be dedicated to working with us in pursuit of musical excellence. It is not required that our new director have barbershop experience if you are willing to take the time to use the resources available from our organization to enhance your director skills in this style of music.
Our new director would get a group of singers who want to continually improve our skills and our results in the regional competition. Our score this year was 72 pts higher than the last time we competed. We are very proud to have come in 2nd place in our division. We also hold several performances each year for the community and for fundraising and need our director to be with us at these events.
The new director, in addition to financial compensation, would also benefit from being a member of the international organization of Sweet Adelines in many ways:
a. Every year there is a week-long symposium in Antonio, Texas for Directors to take classes and participate in brainstorming with directors from around the globe.
b. Twice a year there is an educational weekend at the regional level called AIM (Adventures in Music). Classes, round table discussions and performances offer many ways to gain new insight and enthusiasm for the barbershop art form.
c. Access to the international and regional websites full of extensive resources to learn, grow and enrich our lives.
d. Subscription to The Pitch Pipe magazine published 4 times a year, which is packed with barbershop tricks and tips, success stories, educational information and much more.
You won’t find a more enthusiastic and hard-working group of talented women. Checking out our website and Facebook page will give you an idea of who we are, what we do, and how much
fun we have doing it. (www.riverlightschorus.com)
We currently rehearse on Monday nights from 6:30m to 9:30pm at Congregation Beth Shalom, 1705 Sherwood Ave. in Modesto, CA. You are welcome to visit any time, we look forward to meeting you!
